Gum disease in dogs is usually due to poor dental hygiene. The top reason for gum disease is a reliance on tinned dog food and biscuits.
We clean our teeth with a toothbrush and the dog cleans its teeth with bones. Gum disease begins with the formation of plaque, a sticky film of bacteria that forms in the mouth at the gum line. Plaque hardens into tartar which harms the gums causing them to become red and swollen (gingivitis).
If left untreated, gingivitis will lead to gum and peridontal disease. This can lead to infections of the bone that hold the teeth in place, resulting in loss of bone, which can cause the teeth to fall out. The infection can also travel into the blood and cause further problems.
The gums and teeth need to be cleaned by your vet and any diseased teeth removed.
You will need to follow up with the raw and natural diet as recommended.
I recommend that you start dosing with Colloidal silver 10mls twice daily to treat the infection with Maritime Pine Bark .
