Evening Primrose Oil grows all year round and seeds by itself. John Gerard the herbalist from the 1500's wrote in his decription of borage as bringing happiness and comfort. Borage flowers are renowned to relieve melancholy. The leaves are used for adrenal exhaustion, fevers and chest colds.
It is also a tonic and restorative to adrenal glands, useful when stress threatens to overwhelm you.
A plant or two in an indoor pot will provide leaves all winter, but it will need lots of sun. Borage is an excellent companion plant for tomatoes, squash and strawberries. The plant actually improves the flavor of tomatoes growing nearby.
