Robert McDowell's Herbal Treatments 30 November 2003 Herbal Help for Humans and their CompanionsHello Everyone! This week we have a variety of interesting snippets including a desperate plea for help from a human with a hyperactive dog and another seeking help to restore the rubbed away nose of a collie dog. We have also included the ever needed advice on Golden Staph infections and the value of Colloidal Silver in the treatment of ourselves, as well as our equine and canine companions. How many reasons do you need to consider using Colloidal Silver? An invitation is extended to all those amateur herbalists out there to submit their attempts in using herbs for healing . Your Hyperactive Dog "My dog, normally a very placid and quiet lady becomes maniacal in a storm running up and down the fence line alert to every tiny glimmer of lightening on the horizon. She cannot be calmed or reassured by anything I try, she is not even aware of my presence or voice, my normally loyal and devoted dog has completely been taken over by the effect of the storm. Even if I bring her inside she cries loudly and paws at the door. Please help me. " This desperate plea is not that uncommon among dog owners who have similar problems with their pets in storms and fireworks. In my home town this last weekend the local dog pound has reported that they have many lost and distraught dogs at the moment after the recent "24 hour" car races with accompaning fireworks and a spate of storms over the last week. Actually storms may induce a whole range of effects on your dog including the opposite in sending them cowering to hide under the bed whimpering in fear. There are a combination of emotions at work when your dog is hyperactive or hypoactive for what ever reasons. Apprehension, Impatience, Fear, Insecurity, Lack of Confidence, Overly Busy Head, even Near Loss of Control, certainly the adrenaline is pumping and the concentration is scattered. All of these individual emotional states are covered in the Bach Flower Range of treatments. They are the same ones I include in my Canine Nervous System Rehabilitation Mix ($46.00 for a 12 weeks course) which may be found by clicking on the link; http://www.herbal-dogkeeping.com/dog_nervous_rehabilitation.html In this mix I include the specific Bach flowers along with Mistletoe, Passion Flower, Skullcap, Valerian, Vervain and Wild Lettuce all of which physically regenerate the nervous system itself. A course of this treatment will strengthen the system and allow your dog to be a great deal calmer . The treatment program is given as a course along with behaviour training. The mix is in no way a drug nor a doping agent. It is all natural and as I stated before, it works to strengthen the nervous system itself. Collie Nose Treatment Do Border Collies have the worst reputation for wearing out their nose pads? Certainly we treat more for this complaint than any other breed. I have a number of requests from clients describing worn away noses from digging too vigorously for bones and other doggy delights. Colloidal Silver in the Post Antibiotic Era Numerous Reasons to Consider using Colloidal Silver!!!! The discovery of antibiotics was considered the most important breakthrough in medicine this Century. Beginning with the introduction of penicillin in the early 1940's and the dramatic evidence of infection control in Hospitals and during the Second World War one disease after another fell to the constant onslaught of new and more powerful antibiotics. It was believed in those days that mankind could conquer for all time, many of the infectious diseases, which had plagued us for centuries. After the War, research on these drugs quickly showed up the problem of "drug resistance" and as a result, for the first few years antibiotics were prescribed with caution. Bacteria it turned out were difficult to conquer. They are the oldest life form on the Earth and they have survived, and thrive, virtually everywhere precisely because they are adaptive, that is to say they are capable of changing themselves in response to a hostile environment. When bacteria are constantly exposed to antibiotics, they will do what they do best; they adapt. If only a single bacterium manages to survive an antibiotic attack, that organism can produce over 16,000,000 offspring within 24 hours and most of these will inherit the ability to resist that particular drug. By the 1970's antibiotics were routinely prescribed by most General Practitioners, for viral infections ("just in case they develop into a bacterial infection"), they were included in stock feed programs not only for disease control but because they improved weight gain and they were being pumped into hospitals at alarming rates. It was during the same era that the first MDR (Multi Drug Resistant), strains of bacteria started to appear in Hospitals. The most commonly known of these is 'Golden Staph' which was the first of the new man made "super bugs". Preparations of silver were used throughout the middle ages and proved to be an natural broad-spectrum antibiotic. In fact, while most antibiotic drugs are effective against a select few types of bacteria, colloidal silver has been shown to kill over 650 different types of disease causing bacteria and many viruses as well. Silver is also non-toxic and does not product resistant strains of bacteria. The body cannot utilise metallic silver and it must be converted to the colloidal state in order to be absorbed. A colloid is a suspension of minute particles of the metal (each particle consisting of about 15 atoms) in water. In this state, silver can be easily absorbed and utilised by the body to fight bacterial and viral infections. Indeed, some scientists believe that silver is necessary for the proper functioning of the normal immune system. Colloidal Silver was used and proven to be effective against hundreds of disease-causing bacterium and viruses by the 1940s. Its action as a broad spectrum antibiotic has never been matched by the modern pharmaceuticals in that it produces no drug resistance whatsoever. Now that modern antibiotics are almost completely useless due to their creation of resistant organisms, Silver is our very best option. Silver is completely safe to take, has no side effects and is cheap and simple to produce. It must be emphasized that we need to look at the use of Colloidal Silver in a different light to the use of antibiotics . We are not just replacing one with the other! It is important to get away from the mainstream pharmaceutical mindset. In fact Colloidal Silver needs to be used in conjunction with other herbal treatments which support the immunity and the elimination of toxins required to completely resolve the brush with infection For Yourself: http://www.herbal-treatment.net/infection_herbal_treatment.html For your Horse: http://www.herbal-treatments.com.au/herbal_treatments_for_horses.html For yuor Dog: http://www.herbal-dogkeeping.com/herbal_treatment_dog.html I recommend this program to protect yourself and your animal against contracting one of these 'super bugs' while undergoing surgery, intravenous treatment or otherwise staying over at a Veterinary/ Hospital. It can be started before the planned medical procedure or surgery and will also be helpful in treating an active Golden Staph type infection. An Invitation An invitation to all amateur herbalists out there we would love to hear from you . How are you using the herbal mixes or the fresh herbs that you might grow yourself on your animals and your self ? Have you used them creatively for some complaint other than what they were originally prescribed? You never know it may inspire someone else if you share your story. See you next week with more fascinating stories from our readers. Yours Truly Robert McDowell Herbalist |
