Robert McDowell's Herbal Treatments 14 April 2004 Herbal Help for Humans and their CompanionsThere has been some interesting requests for help this week along with some sad news about two canine companions that have passed away after being successfully treated and in remission then deciding it was time to go.We are always very sorry when a much loved pet stops responding to treatment and becomes increasingly uncomfortable. While you continue to battle, you must ask your dog what they want to do. Your dog will hang on as long as he or she possibly can because they knows this is what you want. If however, they look at you and say in their eyes "let me go" then let them go. If the fight goes out of their eyes or if they are in so much pain that they can not rest, then let them go. While ever they seem to want to stay and fight on then that is fine. I do have one more mix that is sometimes appropriate to try and this is a very old one which was used by herbalists throughout history, to judge whether someone had enough internal fortitude to carry on fighting for their life or not. The idea is that if the parsley mix seemed to pick them up then they would probably make it OK in the end. If not then there were not enough reserves in the central nervous system and the kindest thing was to let them go. Just a small story about the article below on vaginal douches, I recently went to purchase a douche bottle in our local pharmacies, interestingly it was only the older service personel that even knew what I was talking about. Canine - Fatty Tumours This week we heard of a Border Collie with a large fatty tumour between her back legs. She is now on a raw meat and bones diet but with previous owners she may have had a diet that was not so healthy. Because of the size of the tumour her owner decided to have surgery as her movement and gait were being effected by the it. Blood cleansing/fatty tumour herbs will then be used to prevent a reoccurrence. These herbal blood cleansers will break down the walls of any cysts and stimulate the lymphatic and other systems to eliminate whatever toxins the dogs body is trying to get rid of. Along with blood cleansing you might consider a diet which will better support elimination and take the load off the metabolism. Half the recommended human dose would be fine. Equine Mastitis Mastitis can be cured within a single day using Castor Oil alone and I recommend that a stop is put to all Veterinary treatments that result in damage to the mare and the foal and extreme difficulty with re-establishing normal feeding. Cost would be less than $10 total. All you need do is to massage Castor Oil onto the mares teat and leave the foal locked away from her for 2 or 3 hours before washing the teat to wash off the oil and allowing the foal to suckle. After suckling repeat the procedure two or three more times and the mastitis will be cleared. Note there is no danger to the foal from ingesting the curd even if it has become infected, the foals stomach acid deals with this without any danger to itself. Castor Oil is the most effective drawing agent and the above program works every time. When it is cleared up tell your vet and hopefully we can educate the profession not to use interventionist treatment. As with all conditions I first seek to look into the origins of the problem and to first get the whole urinary genital system back into good health and you cant do this until you have completely cleared the Cystitis. I therefore recommend starting on two of my standard mixes and changing your fluid intake habits to get things back to good health. Severe and recurrent Urinary Tract Infection which are becoming resistant to antibiotics are a dangerous condition as each round of drugs weakens the system and the immunity generally. The only ongoing maintenance would be a continuation of the Rosehips Tea and to have some of the UTI mix on hand so that a booster dose can be taken if any early signs of a return showed up at any time in the future. Home Remedies - Fresh Garlic Traditionally it was Garlic Flowers that hung over a herbalists door to indicate to all that a herbalist was within. Garlic has 80% pure Sulphur which is a wonderful alterative meaning it moves out rubbish. It also has Copper which is a bactericide and fungicide. The trace elements that are found in Garlic include Selenium, Chromium, Boron and Zinc. Zinc balances out any excess acidity and associated chronic irritation, while selenium improves thinking ability and memory. Due to these minerals Garlic is often banned from meditation classes because it is powerful brain stimulant. It is called for any infection, and one should not travel in Tropical or Asian countries without it. Garlic has the ability to break up deposits of cholesterols along major blood vessel walls. It is able to metabolically change fatty plaque and make them water soluble. Using fresh crushed garlic in homemade salad dressings is ideal as a preventative. If coming down with a cold/flu take a crushed garlic clove in hot lemon and honey for a quick remedy. If you do need to take away the odour then try aniseed or chewing parsley. For a good clean up of any parasites take 4 capsules per day for 12 weeks.
