Herbal Help for Humans and their Companions

I have heard people say now in their mid and later life that they wish they had been more aware of the trees, light and air when they were jogging, running and partaking in their strenuous exercise as a young student and less aware of how far they had run or how fast their pulse rate was. Running, walking indeed any exercise is best done for the enjoyment that you derive, not for what you get out of it.

The important thing to remember when choosing an exercise for yourself is that it is the one that you will actually do! Dr. Christiane Northrup even goes so far to say :
  • That we should go back in our mind to a time in a child hood when we remember dancing , twirling, skipping, jumping in the sunshine.
  • Feel how good it felt -- the sun and wind and even the smell to be freely moving your body. Try it!
  • Now make a commitment to move your body three times a week , making it as simple as possible. Know and love your body, wash it, rub it with moisturizer and even apply yoga oil to enhance its abilities if it makes you love it more.
  • Learn how to breathe through your nose and use oxygen efficiently.
  • Learn the Salute to the Sun - a set of Yoga exercises.
  • Don't punish yourself, don't take on too much too soon.
  • Exercise really produces a feeling of well-being, look forward to that sensation.

This week we feature:-

Canine - Cholesterol Treatment for Dogs

Sadly we have had a request for help for a dog with high cholesterol levels. Can this really be due to how we feed our canine companions?

Fats are a major source of fuel for the metabolism. Two major fats in the body are cholesterol and triglycerides. They attach themselves to proteins so they can travel through the blood stream.
Cholesterol values in the dog are not thought to have as much significance with regards to the health of the heart as they do in humans, however elevated levels of cholesterol are seen in a variety of disorders including hypothyroidism and diseases of the liver, kidneys, cardiovascular, diabetes and stress.

Cholesterol is a waxy fat that is present in all animals. Two sources contribute to the amount of cholesterol in the body. First, the liver manufactures a percentage while the remainder is consumed through animal products . The correct balance of the different types of cholesterol is essential for optimal functioning of all body systems.

Long-term problems that result from excess cholesterol can include atherosclerosis, coronary disease and stroke. The herbs in my cholesterol treatment for dogs includes Fenugreek, Dandelion, Garlic, Fennel, Rosehips, and Agrimony as well as the Bach Flowers Chestnut Bud, Honeysuckle, Heatherand Wild Rose.

These herbs work together to increase lymphatic circulation and the digestion of fats, stimulate and support the liver and pancreatic enzymes and metabolically alter cholesterol to be water soluble and more easily eliminated from our bodies.

Equine - Coughs and Chest Infections

A cough with lethargy is possibly a bronchial infection whereas a springtime or summer cough without lethargy is likely to be an allergic type of cough.

It is a good idea to treat a cough early to avoid having to proceed through antibiotics and such like and I have a very good herbal upper respiratory herbal preventative/cure which works by building up the immunity so that the animal can fight the infection on his own.

See the link:

I recommend a course of this treatment to clear the cough and to continue for a couple of weeks after the symptoms have gone to rebuild the immunity.

Simple, safe and do-it-yourself.

Human - Yoga Oil (Ligament Flexibility)

I formulated this ligament oil especially to assist in gaining increased flexibility of our ligaments and the range of movement of our joints.

Yoga enthusiasts, gymnasts, dancers , sports people and even those who are trying to maintain some movement and flexibility into mid and older age can see improvement in their flexibility in just over 2 weeks of using the oil daily and doing stretching and flexing exercises.

When you work hard to achieve a flexible, strong and pain free body it is encouraging to find a simple supportive preparation such as this Yoga Ligament Oil to restore our elasticity and to take our ability to stretch to the next level. In addition I recommend including a tablespoon of a freshly ground millet and linseed combination to your breakfast cereal. These two herbs contain specific nutrients to support the health of bones and the elasticity of ligaments which work together with the healing herbs contained in the Yoga Oil.

The herbs included in my Yoga Oil are:- Arnica, Comfrey, Linseed Oil, White Willow, Wintergreen Oil and Rescue Remedy. Linseed, a critical ingredient in this mix, lubricates joints, restores and extends flexibility, renews elasticity while lengthening and strengthening tendons. The other ingredients work together to support this restoration and to heal any bruising, improve circulation to the area and reduce inflammation as you ask your ligaments and joints to stretch and rotate through a greater and greater range.

Home Remedies - Vaginal Health and Thrush

The old fashioned vaginal douches are far more effective in both the short and long term of any vaginal infection, fungal or bacterial.

Always start with a cup of warm water. Helpful common household ingredients include the following: Fresh Lemon Juice, Cider Vinegar, Yoghurt and Slippery Elm Powder.

Even using just fresh lemon juice with warm water is highly effective. If you were to prepare a douche with small amounts of the first four on the list and use it regularly twice daily, the mucous membranes of the vagina would regain their natural vitality and resistance to infection and heal up any damage.

This is also healing when love making has been a little too vigorous or you are just more conscious of wanting to be clean.
