Robert McDowell's Herbal Treatments 25 August 2004 Herbal Help for Humans and their CompanionsBad eating habits start very early on in our lives, we over eat, reward eat, eat for comfort, eat too quickly and often eat without an appetite. How many of us are really in tune with our true appetites? How many of us know what it is like to feel hunger? When emotionally or physically stressed we should change the foods we eat as our stomachs shut down making digestion and absorption of nutrients impossible. This is when we should eat foods like broth and juices, definitely not heavy protein and grains. We all need to get back in touch with home cooking and foods appropriate for the season and our age. As we age we generally need less protein and fats and a higher intake of fibre to maintain our body. However, more importantly we need to eat for the person that we are -- instinctive knowing what is right for us at a particular time. This week we feature:-
Canine - A Conditioning Mix with a Myriad of Uses If your dog suffers from Cushings, Irritable bowel syndrome, a poor appetite, liver problems, cirrhosis, spider or snake bites or indeed any upset that effects the dogs metabolic system then consider using our conditioning mix. Problems such as those above or any poisoning, surgery or long-term illness throw the metabolic system out of balance. This leads to various systems struggling to cope and to compensate for the imbalance and still may not show any readings in blood work or other tests which explain the situation. The combination of herbs stimulates the liver , rebalances the nervous and immune systems, removes any infection as well as optimizing the blood sugar levels. In the first place I would recommend my metabolic reconditioning mix to get all the systems working normally again. This is to be found on the link: http://www.herbal-dogkeeping.com/dog_conditioning_mix.html If there are other matters to address it is best sometimes to leave them until your dog is at least partly back in harmony at least in regard to its metabolism. Equine - Your Horse's Respiratory System For overall lung efficiency, the thick winded horse, the pacer or endurance horse whose wind is the thing which lets them down I make a tonic called the BREATHEWELL LUNG TONIC. This is concerned with the muscular strength and efficiency of the lungs themselves, the health and well being of the linings of the bronchioles and the efficiency of the oxygen uptake through the walls of the alveoli. The specific herbs chosen, together work on all these systems and I mostly prescribe it for horses who are not ill in anyway but whose respiratory efficiency is what lets them down in competition. It is very popular amongst the Pacers whose unnatural gait compromises their breathing somewhat. Thick winded horses often perform better with this mix as an ongoing supplement while they are in full work. The Breathewell Tonic is to be found on the website at: http://www.herbal-horsekeeping.com/horse_breathe_well_lung_tonic.html For a weakened respiratory system and immunity given to repeated infections anywhere in the system and slow recovery and a history of too many antibiotics to attempt to control such infections I make up the CHEST AND IMMUNITY MIX which contains all the herbs which promote health and resistance in the Respiratory system. Specifically, they work to strengthen cell walls to make viral attack less likely, to assist the immunity in clearing bacterial infection including those bacterium which have become immune to antibiotics, and to repair the health of the mucus membranes in the sinus cavities, throat and bronchioles. I recommend that a horse with a history of lowered respiratory immunity be put on a course of the Immunity Mix for a total of 6 weeks after the last signs of infection has disappeared and be put back on it on the first day of recurring symptoms for another full course. After two or three such courses, the horse's immunity will be fully restored and it will be no less likely to go down than any other horse and, if it does come in contact with an infection, it will get over it by itself, in just two or three days. The Chest and Immunity Tonic is to be found on the website at: http://www.herbal-horsekeeping.com/horse_chest_immunity.html For BLEEDERS, I make up a tonic which specifically addresses the strength of the alveoli walls and the scarring which occurs with this condition as well as the heart, which suffers tremendous shock whenever a severe bleed occurs. I can often rehabilitate bleeders which are caught early or hold together other chronic bleeders for a period of time, although the scarring and the loss of elasticity within the fragile blood vessels of the lungs itself soon aggravates the situation and can be beyond repair, after a certain point. If one is taking on an ex racer which has been retired as a bleeder, and wishes to use them for competition it is a very good idea to give them a course of Bleeder Treatment to assist in the repair and efficiency of the lungs which then do not present any problem for other sports. The Bleeder Mix is to be found on my website at: http://www.herbal-horsekeeping.com/horse_bleeder_treatment.html Human - Gall Stone Attack Gall stones are collections of crystals in the gallbladder or bile ducts. Gall stones are more common in women than men, the risk factors include obesity, older age, a western diet and a genetic disposition. Most gall stones are made up of cholesterol, which usually stays in a liquid state in the bile , however when there are excessive amounts it may precipitate out and form stones. When these stones move to the bile duct or enter the small or large intestine through the gall bladder wall then sharp intermittent pain can be experienced often in the upper right quadrant of the abdomen and even the right shoulder blade. Permanent obstruction of these ducts can result in fevers and serious infection. The gall bladder reacts to fat metabolism. If your gall bladder is struggling , then more stress is placed on your liver so it may be helpful to start drinking 3 cups of Dandelion tea each day to support your liver generally. On an energetic level the gall bladder reflects any stored resentment, something that won't leave your mind, an injustice a hurt or mistreatment that you haven't been able to let go or drop. The Bach Flower Gentian or Willow may help. However I do have a reliable program for dissolving gallstones and dealing with an attack. These programs are described on my websites at: http://www.herbal-treatment.net/herbs_calcium_stone.html http://www.herbal-treatment.net/herbs_gall_attack.html The acute mix, for dealing with the pain and spasm of an attach is common to both types of gallstones and the mix designed to dissolve the stones is dependent on whether the stones are calcium type of cholesterol type. The Calcium type of stone will show up as a hard edged image in both an X-Ray and a Scan. Cholesterol stones are not so well defined being made up of fatty tissue rather than mineral deposits. The acute gall attack mix of course is used only during the course of an attack and the treatment program is used for three to six months normally to reverse the process of deposition and dissolve the current deposits. At some stage during the treatment I prefer to conduct an online consultation to help identify the underlying factors which led to the stones being formed in the first place. These are normally a blend of metabolic, dietary and emotional factors which lead those predisposed to stones to begin their accumulation. Home Remedies - Alfalfa Sprouts Alfalfa (Lucerne) sprouts are easy to grow and are now readily available in supermarkets. Why are they so good for us? Every day we would be better for eating a handful or putting them in our salads. If we tend to have an acidic digestive system and tissues making us prone to arthritic and rheumatic conditions then alfalfa sprouts can add a highly needed alkaline component. Western diets can easily become acidic with their high intake of white refined sugars and flours. Nervous energy also creates acid wastes, so for those people always on the go with their eye on the clock and rushing around like the white rabbit becoming irritated and irritable then they may be the ones that need a daily boost of alfalfa sprouts. Sprouts are a great package of food giving you the vegetable in the leaf and the protein in the seed, in a form readily absorbed and assimilated by the body, making them excellent food for vegetarians as well. They have the added benefit of assisting the digestion of proteins with their 9 essential amino acids. This aspect of alfalfa also aids allergies to pollen and insect bites. Phoned your clinic immediately to inquire about Oil. 9.08.04 Oil arrived-rubbed into muscle in morning.Left rug off for the day to be sure it didn't burn(forgot to ask that question).Applied again on the 11.08.04. 13.08.04 Vet returned and was VERY impressed and surprised at the improvement in only one week.Seemed to be no pain, was harder to locate, reduced in size and flattened out a lot.Performed accupuncture and recommended the horse probably return to work in a couple of weeks.I informed my vet about the oil and he was pretty impressed, obviously the combination of treatments has worked brilliantly.I intend to keep using the oil until there is no more improvement, though I am quietly confident that this may heal completely. My vet's first comment was "once you have a scar you're stuck with it",but now he thinks it might just heal. GREAT news and thanks for your wonderful products.
