Herbal Help for Humans and their Companions
Rescue Remedy- "when all else fails or when nothing else prevails."
Rescue remedy combines the qualities of Star Of Bethlehem, Rock Rose, Clematis, Impatiens and Cherry Plum, together these remedies are extremely potent but also very gentle in their action. It specifically acts on trauma and shock, the tendency to "pass out", and unconsciousness, it brings a groundedness when fear and shock takes you ‘far away’ and removes your mental presence, it calms the mind on the verge of a breakdown, reduces anger, irritability, tension and the common reaction of uselessly fidgeting as well as the tendency to be become frozen in panic.
Rescue Remedy is especially beneficial when you find yourself in traumatic situations, such as:-
- Accidents and emergencies.
- After getting bad news.
- Before an exam, speech or job interview and all other kind of situations where we suddenly loose balance mentally.
- Birthing-Pregnant women in labor have made the experience easier and less traumatic by taking Rescue Remedy.
- Sleep problems-Rescue Remedy can also be taken just before going to bed to calm a troubled mind.
- To calm children in a tantrum.
- Always but always take before and after dentist work.
The Essences quickly get us back in our normal balance so that we can calmly deal with any situation. When we suffer from impatience, tension and pressure Rescue Remedy helps us relax, clears our mind and become focused .
Many people choose to carry Rescue Remedy in their purse, at the office, in the car or in the nappy bag. You never know when you need it.
This week we feature:-
Bovine - Calf Tick Paralysis
Tick paralysis can be fatal so it is important to contact a veterinarian .
It is important to keep the calf quiet and COOL, with NO STRESS. With dogs the recommendation is no food or water until you are sure they are able to swallow properly, or they can swallow the wrong way and get aspiration pneumonia on top of tick paralysis. Please check with your vet regarding this with relation to calves. Depending on how badly the calf is affected he may well need tick anti-serum.
For herbal support once the calf is able to eat and drink again - give Dandelion tea to support his liver and Rosehip tea to support the kidneys and adrenal glands. The rosehip granules and Dandelion granules can be mixed together 2 dessertspoons of each to one litre of boiling water. Leave this to steep and then give as a drink or dampen down feed if eating - split between 2 to 3 drinks/feeds.
Alternatively we do have a conditioning tonic that is excellent for aiding recovery after poisoning and severe illness etc see http://www.herbal-horsekeeping.com/horse_conditioning_blend.html.
We can make this up as an organic cider vinegar mixture with the herbs to allow for easier dosing. We can work out how much the dosage ia after we know the weight of the calf.
Equine - Infected Wound
In treating an infected wound you need to watch for the wound reopening on its own which would indicate that the blood cleansing process internally has not quite cleared all the toxins in the blood which were attempting to drain. The castor oil will clear anything which is close to the surface but cannot clear the blood itself. The Molasses, Rosehips and Garlic are working on this end of things but you may need a course of blood cleanser as well.
To assist the drainage you can use castor oil. This dramatically improves the bodies chances of expelling whatever it is trying to expel.
The oil can be mixed to a paste with a little plain flour & applied as a poultice, bandage & leave on reapply 1x daily.
Or just dabbed on the drain hole or even syringed (only a little) into the entrance of the drain.
You can obtain Castor Oil at any Pharmacy and you should also give some Garlic and Molasses extract which you can make up by soaking fresh cloves of garlic in molasses and feeding the mix to your horse.
To clear the wound from infection I recommend you treat with the Blood Cleanser Mix to be found at and ordered from; http://www.herbal-horsekeeping.com/horse_blood_cleanser.html
This treatment will boost the immune and elimination systems to actively and positively discharge waste products of infection and inflammation.
Healing will be assisted by improving the circulation to the leg & for this we recommend the hoof oil treatment see link http://www.herbal-horsekeeping.com/horse_hoof_oil.html;
For any infection Rosehips tea also is a great immunity booster see treatment on link; http://www.herbal-horsekeeping.com/horse_rosehips_granules.html
Human - Human - Hiatal Hernia
The suffering from Hiatal hernia is very simple to alleviate with the Slippery Elm. Just make up a paste of slippery elm (one dessertspoonful) mixed into chamomile tea and eat it in tiny teaspoonfuls so that each swallow coats the area. You can do this twice daily and if you continue for 12 weeks the irritated area will have healed .. As well take chamomile tea daily 2 or 3 cups.
Slippery Elm and Chamomile both may be given to day old babies. Two of the least likely herbs to activate any reaction or sensitivity.

Home Remedies - Mosquito Problems
Pass this on to anyone who likes sitting outside in the evening or when they're having a barbecue.
Those pesky mosquitoes have the potential to carry a whole range of nasty viruses. So any tip to avoid their bites is good news.
Put some water in a white dinner plate and add a couple drops of Lemon Fresh Joy dish detergent. Set the dish on your porch, patio, or other outdoor area. Not sure what attracts them, the lemon smell or the white plate color but mosquitoes flock to it, and drop dead shortly after drinking the Lemon Fresh Joy/water mixture, and usually within about 3 metres of the plate.
May seem too simple to be effective but it is said to work a treat.
Pass it along!!!!!!!!!!

Feedback from a reader:
Jennifer Frazier speaks about the Herbal Horsekeeping Online Book
WOW! I got it, I mean, I really got it - answers, and more answers to things about my horses(which I really consider my 'children') that have been spinning around in my head for too long. Where have ya'll been hiding???
Every horse owner should have a mandatory copy of your book - what an incredible thing and an indispensable tool - Again, thank you. I am really looking forward to the journey to getting all of my horses back to just 'horses'.
