Herbal Help for Humans and their Companions

A Craving for Chocolate
How many of us suffer from cravings for chocolate at certain times? This phenomena may be more of a female concern. Dr. Christiane Northrup in her book "Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom" suggests that we should :-
  • Listen to our cravings and not deny them completely . If we eat a small amount of chocolate between 10am -4pm then our balance of brain chemistry will be addressed by adding some serotonin. This will prevent destructive overeating later on. Half an ounce of chocolate may be all thats required.
After 4pm our "emotional body" becomes more active meaning that if we have under nourished ourselves during the day then we are much more likely to overeat and binge instead of resting which our body may really be seeking.
  • The fat in dark chocolate has similar beneficial effects as does Olive Oil- its a little heathier than milk chocolate.
  • Avoid foods high in carbohydrates and fats late at night as by then our metabolic rate has slowed down , so we will put on weight if we consume these foods late.
  • If you are going to eat your favourite comfort foods then eat the best quality there is. Make an event of it -- savour it completely. Eat in full consciousness! This also means as much as possible to eat without watching TV or reading books - amazingly our food is metabolized differently if we are totally present. Our surroundings, the sunlight or starlight , our company even the colour of our walls effects how our food is metabolized.
Next time you dine out notice how differently you eat and feel in the ambience of a restaurant.

This week we feature:-

Concerned Owners of Pets with Cancer

We occasionally receive long lists of questions and concerns from owners of pets with cancer, and this is very common particularly from those who have personally researched cancer treatments and come up with conflicting views.

We have been supporting cancer patients both human and animal using nutritional, herbal and homeopathic approaches for many years now and here at Herbal-treatments we are happy and convinced that our approach is safe and effective.

Let us look at the most common myths :-

1. "Herbal Treatments and Vitamins should not be used with Chemotherapy as they counteract these drugs"
We are beginning to hear Oncologists nowadays suggesting that health and herb tonics work against the chemotherapy and to the extent that they help the body recover more quickly from the damage done by the strong poisons in chemo this is true. However our take on this matter is that the chemo does its work very quickly after the dose or injection is given and will damage cancer cells in the first few hours until the body has broken down the poisons. The effect of the herbal chemotherapy support mix is to support all those other systems in the body which are damaged and also the whole process of elimination which is involved in clearing the toxins and their waste products including cancer cells.

On balance therefore I would rather have my body and its natural vitality protected from the long term effects of Chemo and let the Chemo do its work in the short term to hit at the faster growing cancer cells.

2. "Isn't Comfrey Dangerous?"
The idea that Comfrey is a dangerous herb is one of the biggest items of disinformation out there. Comfrey works by speeding up the rate of DNA-correct cell replication (besides being the best source of Vitamin B 12 there is) and simple minded chemists decided that since accelerated cell growth rate is a characteristic of Cancer then comfrey must be dangerous.
Further, these same chemists claim that some animals fed diets with large amounts of comfrey suffered liver damage. (just as they would have if they had been over fed carrots). Indeed at the Royal London Zoo the elephants are regularly fed small amounts of comfrey leaves as part of their nutritional regime.

The foetus grows at a much faster rate than most cancers but this is not an out of control runaway growth it is part of the correct plan. The speedier rate of growth sponsored by Comfrey is also an intelligent rate and it refers constantly back to the genetic blueprint so that it grows healthy cells in replacement of damaged ones. In other words it grows healthy bone tissue and not just bone scar tissue to heal a broken bone and actually minimises the amount of scarring in such a repair.

Equine Ulcers

We recently received this request for help:
"Hi am hoping that you may be able to give me some insight, I have noticed lately that my big thoroughbred's personality has changed to where he has become aggressive and he grinds his teeth when ever I attempt to touch his stomach. I guess what I'm wondering can it be possible that he may have ulcers as he has in the past been on a very high protein diet, whilst in training but this has been changed over the last six months as the work load has decreased."

It could very well be that this horse is developing an ulcer and it is a simple matter to heal this up using Slippery Elm Bark Powder and Chamomile.

See:http://www.herbal-horsekeeping.com/articles_equine_stomach_ulcers.html

This program is completely safe and healthy even in the event there is no ulceration and we can supply bulk quantities of the herbs involved by mail order.

After the first three weeks you should see a vast improvement. It could well be a good idea to brew up a mix of both Chamomile and Rosehips Granules to gain the benefits of the extra Iron as well as vitamin C and the Kidney tonic effects of Rosehips in case an ulcer has caused bleeding into the gut and iron loss.

You can steep 2 - 4 dessert spoons in 1 litre of boiling water, allow to cool, place 1/2 in the morning feed and the remainder in the afternoon feed, each day.

If your horse is in any pain at all, please stay clear of Bute as this is a major cause of Ulceration in the stomach and will only add to the problem. I have an anti inflammatory that is natural and safe to use with no side effects and it is found at :

Acne

Acne results from follicles becoming infected from an excess of sebum clogging skin pores . For some young adolescents, particularly boys, the problem can be exaccerbated by a lack of personal hygeine.

During adolescence, premenstrual times and even at other times of life hormoneal levels can have an effect on the conditions of the skin , also the skin reflects the health of the lymphatic system. If the lymphatic system is overloaded by toxins and fats that it can't digest or eliminate then our skin and kidneys bear the brunt.

If possible resist the use of antibiotics as this only kills the secondary infection and slows down the process of elimination. Long courses of strong antibiotics also damage your liver, your immunity and metabolism generally.
Our acne/blood cleansing mix addresses the problem on both levels, the hormonal and lymphatic systems.

As well, the herbs we use in our mix reduces skin and circulatory sensitivity while at the same time strengthening the blood vessel walls.

Acne, if sqeezed and picked at, and it can be very hard to resist doing this can leave long lasting scars. Our scar healing oil is ideal and it works pretty quickly if you get into the routine of appling it regularly and massaging it into the scar a little each time.

I recommend that you keep it in the bathroom and just get into the habit of applying it sparingly and massaging it in every time you get out of the shower. A habit like this continued for three months in the first instance will make an enormous and visible difference to any scars.

You may order the oil directly from the link:

Also the Skin Recovery Spray has significant healing properties beyond wound healing and I would certainly consider a program which alternated this spray say in the morning with our Skin Magic Cream in the evening.

Home Remedies - Acne

  • Fenugreek tea on a regular basis is a good lymphatic tonic, it stimulates the lymph system so its a great cleanser. Mind you for some it can bring out a body odour while it does its job that makes you smell like a curry!

  • Golden Seal is unsurpassed as a skin, eye and ear herb, used externally it can lift debris and infection. It is soothing, antiseptic and drawing. My teenage daughter has been using this added to a comfrey cream and found it heals quickly.

  • Mallow is equally good at drawing out infection but is not antiseptic.

  • Honey - Massage into skin and steam face, then cleanse and rub with a cut lemon.
