Herbal Help for Humans and their Companions

Hello again,

The year seems to be travelling so fast that I am having trouble grabbing hold of it all!!

I know deep down that despite the time seeming to be lost I must still take time to consciously undertake not only my tasks and work but my walk, my meditation and prayers and to care for my relationships.

The more difficult it becomes the harder I must try and I truly know that my life will be enriched again and again.

This week we feature:-

Canine - Bowel Inflammatory Disease

From the herbal point of view we need to settle the metabolic disturbance which has resulted in an inflammation in the walls of the bowel and most likely also within the pelvic cavity itself.

Your dog's digestive system was probably always sensitive and originally reacted to something in the diet, probably a chemical or preservative or the like. The process of inflammation then made the system even more reactive and the weakening which took place then became an idea host for infection which thrives in such conditions. The waste produces of infection are now building up in the blood and in the tissue surrounding the bowel and the situation will progress with more and more antibiotics and steroids hoping to hold the symptoms at bay while the system heals itself.

The way out is to treat your dog for the underlying causes as well as for the current symptoms and this would involve the following:

Put your dog on a convalescent diet consisting of only 5 meals per week and each of them is nothing more than raw meat and bones. Preferably with the meat still on the bond to reduce the speed which she eats at. This food should be fed outside in the yard to give her an opportunity to leave them around to ripen (so that they will be able to supply her with the appropriate gut flora) or to bury them (for the same reason). The two fasting days are to give the digestion a complete rest. No treats, no commercial dog food nothing else. If she finds something herself to eat in the yard be it weeds or the cat's stools or whatever let her have what she wants instinctively.

Only by allowing her to fast and have an empty digestive system for most of the time (see the article on the website at:
http://www.herbal-dogkeeping.com/articles_digestive_system_ofadog.html )
can her system heal properly and clear the toxins which have built up.

The medical treatment is to provide a herbal mixture to support the return to normal of her whole system (the Conditioning Mix found on:
http://www.herbal-dogkeeping.com/dog_conditioning_mix.html
which will be given twice daily mixed into a teaspoon of Slippery Elm Powder which has been mixed into a paste with cold Chamomile Tea.
If she doesn't take to this you could make up a quantity of Rolled Oats Porridge and mix the slippery elm and herbs into a small quantity of this and feed it to her before her bones in the morning and in the evening when she is already hungry again. The oats itself is soothing to the gut and will not aggravate her condition but I don't want her on massive amounts, only a little to take the medicine in at the moment.

I do have anti infection mixes and anti inflammatory mixes but I don't believe they will be necessary as I would expect signs of improvement pretty rapidly.

To do the job properly the other problem which needs to be helped is a blood cleansing treatment to assist the diet and fasting regime to clear the toxic build-up. The mix I suggest can be found on the website at:
http://www.herbal-dogkeeping.com/dog_blood_poisoning.html

This treatment is advertised for skin conditions but it works by clearing toxins through the liver, kidney, blood and lymphatics which is what we need to support.

Scarring and Trauma Healing with Horses

Scarring can be reduced to an absolute minimum over time if you are prepared to keep working on it. The essential ingredient to such healing is the herb Comfrey which has been used forever for healing because of its properties to speed up cell replication. If the scar is massaged daily with a cream containing Comfrey the massage stimulates blood supply to the scar tissue itself and the comfrey supports the replacement of scar tissue cells with normal cells over time.

A specific preparation which is listed on my website below
http://www.herbal-horsekeeping.com/horse_scar_healing.html
is a super concentrated oil and herb combination which contains the following ingredients: Maritime Pine Antioxidant, Equisetum, Comfrey, Arnica, Rosemary, Cajuput and Linseed. This combination combines irritant and healing qualities which accelerate the absolute maximum the resolution of scarring. It is applied very sparingly and rubbed along the line of the scar itself and nowhere else once per day.

Keep this up as a routine and you will see improvements within a few weeks only.

Another one of my preparations (the Trauma Mix) is an internal treatment where I have extracted the herbal ingredients into organic cider vinegar it is specific for post trauma nervous system recovery. See the site by clicking the link below:
http://www.herbal-horsekeeping.com/horse_trauma_treatment.html

A short course of this followed by a longer course of the Nervous System Rehabilitation Mix found at
http://www.herbal-horsekeeping.com/horse_nervous_rehabilitation.html
is the way to deal with the sort of reactions your horse now has to deal with.

None of the ingredients in the two internal mixes above swab.

Ovarian Cysts

Ovarian cysts can sometimes be confused with appendicitis pain, so it is worthwhile checking the cause of the pain that is experienced at ovulation and menstruation.

These cysts can grow to vastly different sizes: almond, golf or even cricket ball size. If they are large it may take years to reduce contents safely without rupturing it suddenly.

When it is a large cyst it may be safer to surgically remove it then come back to us and take herbs to ensure they don't reoccur.

There can be a discoloured (green/grey) and smelly discharge at ovulation.

If you are already experiencing high fever, tenderness and abdominal distensions it may mean that the ovary has ruptured and you have some pelvic inflammation. When this occurs it is best to take herbs to cover and remove the infection that can result ie add Garlic and Echinacea to the Ovarian cyst mix.

More information can be found at the site below.
http://www.herbal-treatment.net/herbs_ovarian_polycystic.html

On an energy level our ovaries are feminine points of creation, nursing old hurts and emotional blows creates something false out of how you reacted as in cysts and tumors. So change the way you react to these hurts, you are totally responsible for all your experiences.

Home Remedies - Raw Linseed Oil

Raw Linseed Oil is known as flax when it is growing as a plant . The plant has a delicate blue flower and is used to make cambric linen. Buy it cheaply in its thick yellow form from the hardware store.

This simple home remedy is so helpful that my herbal teacher said that every sports room should have this on hand by the litre! Raw Linseed Oil is one of the basic ingredients in our Athletes Oil Mix seen below.
http://www.herbal-treatment.net/herbs_athletes_oil.html

Nothing surpasses it for lubricating joints, it has neither heating nor anti inflammatory qualities but it has the ability to correctly balance the elasticity of ligaments. So when ligaments have been torn, tensed, strained, or have even become too loose as in hypermobile/double jointed or 'clicky' jointed folk it can put them back into a optimal condition.

It is also invaluable when tendons have shrunk or contracted too tightly as in after burns or tendon damage or even contractures after birth.

Apply linseed oil after cooling a burn to seal and prevent plasma leakage.

Linseed oil can renew the elasticity to burnt/scarred skin as well as soften and restore flexibility to ligaments and tendons.

Of course it can be used in the form of linseed meal which is often mixed with millet as a basis or addition to make a wholesome high protein breakfast. This is nutritionally beneficial to the health and strength of our bones. See our bone healing site below.
