Herbal Help for Humans and their Companions

Change of Life, even the name conjures some thing awesome, the feature below seems to high light the negative side even though menopause can be effectively treated with herbs. Recently I read a small article by Christine Riley who took another fresh look at the change of life . She saw the fact that we can name it as an advantage , in naming it we can speak about it.

Christine sees it as an initiation threshold and asks what can we learn by consciously crossing this portal. How can we view it as a gift, an aid to discovery as we move along the spiritual path.
Rudolf Steiner actually said that "esoteric life consists to a large extent in learning to interpret the subtle processes in one self and ones environment". So what is the hot flush burning up on a emotional level?? Thoughts, feelings anything that is not leading us forward.?

Over time Christine discovered that every flush and blush followed a negative thought.
It was difficult to trace thoughts especially on waking and this led her to agree that our thoughts are really on show .

And finally I will leave you with a poem from Mikhail Naing in the book of Mirdad
"So, think as if every thought were to be etched in fire upon the sky for all and everything to see. For, in truth so it is"

This week we feature:-

Canine - Demodectic Mange

My first step in treating all canine skin conditions is to provide a full course of blood cleansers.

The fungal infestation can result as a secondary infection, this tends to occur in areas of damaged skin.

What is really going on with Demodectic Mange is that the skin's own resistant to parasitic attack has been weakened through the build-up of toxins under the skin. The blood cleanser tonic can be found by clicking on:
http://www.herbal-dogkeeping.com/dog_skin_blood_cleanser.html

These toxins can be simply the normal products of metabolism or derived from to many chemicals in feed or from worming over a long period and the body stores them under the skin if other means of elimination are overloaded.

When a course of blood cleansers is given over a complete blood cycle (around 12 weeks) the skin is able to recover its normal resistance and can often repel the mites and other parasitic attack on its own.

If the skin damage has been extensive and long term I provide specific antifungal/ anti parasitic herbal applications which are mixed 40 drops into 20ml of Colloidal Silver and sprayed onto the dogs coat after rinsing in warm water once per day.

In addition in some cases I advise using a skin recovery spray or skin healing ointments to repair the scarring and restore the health and elasticity of the skin itself.

The Antiparasitic/ Antifungal Concentrate costs found at:

Colloidal Silver:
http://www.herbal-dogkeeping.com/dog_colloidal_silver_antibiotic.html

This program can completely and permanently clear up the mange particularly if it is instituted with a natural raw meat and bones diet and you can eliminate commercial dog feed entirely. In my experience mange found in well cared for dogs is more likely to be due to their reactions to the chemicals in commercial dog feed than anything else.

I hope this is a helpful explanation.

Equine - "Big Head Disease"

Big Head Disease is also known as Bran Disease or NSH which stands for Nutritional Secondary Hyperparathyrodism, this disease still occurs today despite the fact that it has been known about since 1860.

It is generally a lack of Calcium and magnesium in the diet and if left untreated can become permanent.

It can happen when a diet low in calcium and high in phosphorus is given as the high level of phosphorus impairs the utilization of calcium in some bones , connective tissue invades the affected bone which actually increases in size hence the common name Big Head.

It can also be caused when feeding high levels of wheat bran which has a high phosphorus ratio to calcium, so it is actually causing more calcium to be removed from the body then is deposited.

We suggest getting Dolomite and give a 1/3 cup 2x a day this contains calcium and magnesium, plenty of Lucerne chaff ( again calcium)

The Tendon and Bone mix which can be found at:
http://www.herbal-horsekeeping.com/horse_tendon_bone_healing.html

Some kelp granules in the diet for all trace mineral, now this only need be 2 teaspoons once a day.

Some Chamomile and rosehip tea in the diet, again you should be able to get this from a health food store, Rosehip tea is high in Iron and Vit C, Chamomile is a good help to the thyroid which can become affected by high phosphorus levels causing what is know as Nutritional Secondary Hyperparathyroidism in turn causing the big head.

Steep 2 dessert spoons of the rosehip granules in 1 litre of boiling water, cool and mix 1/2 am feed rest pm feed do the same with the Chamomile flowers but use 4 dessert spoons. Mix this with some Copra Meal to make a mash.

I have found an article with regards to Big Head which I suggest you have a good read of:
http://www.ker.com/library/archive/proceedings/sc96/1/

Also one I have written regarding minerals and horses:
http://www.herbal-horsekeeping.com/newsletter_15062002_natural_sources_minerals_vitamins.html

Tropical grass's are very low in calcium and general minerals. They will need more than 1 biscuit of hay to keep up calcium levels and a general balanced system, they should be getting at least 2 - 3 biscuits TWICE a day of good quality hay. And give a mineral lick in the paddock placed near the water trough.

The above teas and kelp and Tendon & Bone mix and Dolomite can be mixed into some Copra meal and given with the hay 2 x a day.

The Tendon and Bone is actually made up fresh as a bucket of ground herbs and seeds mixed with other herbs extracted into vinegar and will not be allowed WA for quarantine reasons.

My best suggestion is to make up the Tendon and Bone mix yourself. The recipe is to be found in my do it yourself e-book to be found on:

Change of Life

Change of life or menopause as it is also called occurs across a wide age range in women from 40 to 60.

Menstrual periods vary in duration and flow with fewer and fewer cycles involving the release of an egg.

The ovaries themselves become less responsive to the stimulating hormones and so they secrete smaller amounts of estrogen and progesterone.

The symptoms of menopause or perimenopause (the time immediately before cessation of periods)may include hot flushes - more than 75% of women experience these, osteoporosis, fatigue, irritability, insomnia and nervousness which may all be caused by a decrease in estrogen levels.

HRT, hormone replacement therapy is a common treatment but is also controversial as it has reseached side effects that include nausea, breast discomfort, headache, mood changes and more recently breast cancer.

However there are herbal and homeopathic alternatives that are effective in treating these processes . If you ever have the feeling that you literally can't cope reach immediately for a cup of chamomile tea.

On an emotional level there may be a fear of aging , a fear of no longer being wanted or good enough, in fact it may even be a rejection of self. The media coverage of young, beautiful and ridiculously thin models and celebrities today make it harder and harder to accept normal aging . In fact there has built up over the last 20 years a belief in the glory of youth. It doesn't last. There is no way we can compete with that very unreal world!

We have to know all the feminine processes including aging as not only normal and natural but beautiful and wondrous.

Home Remedies - Papaya

Papaya or Paw Paw the wonderful tropical fruit that has enormous enzyme activity and may be known by you as a meat tenderizer. "Papain" the isolated paw paw enzyme is available at health food shops for this purpose.

As a healer papaya is incredibly active as its enzyme eats away at weeping, infected and ulcerated tissue and returns a balance to dry or wet skin.

The skin of the papaya can be placed directly on to varicose ulcers, bed sores, cracked skin, heels, between toes for tinea and ringworm. It also heals parasites, scabies and is amazingly effective for excema.

Paw paw ointment is also available at pharmacies and health food stores.
