Robert McDowell's Herbal Treatments 06 October 2004 Herbal Help for Humans and their CompanionsFlower EssencesFlower essences work as an energy at a molecular level, they can't change the basic physical state of a person but they can turn the spiral of energy from negative to positive. The energy we carry (whether or not it's positive or negative) is able to ray out and affect those around us, it either pulls others "down" with us or uplifts them . Rudolf Steiner talks about how we are able to receive nourishment from certain positive people. Often we are too close to prescribe for ourselves or even our family, this requires the services of a professional to prescribe for the deeper layers of our soul. Flower essences can either be used for long term benefits to change subconscious emotions and attitudes or preventatively for two or three weeks before an event such as an exam. Making a Flower Essence Take a glass bowl and two thirds fill with pure running water . Pick enough flowers early in the morning before the dew has evaporated and float in the water . Place the bowl in the sun on the ground for 2 or 3 hours and then bottle the essence straining off the flowers. The transformation is made by the sun's and earth's energy, a quantum physics reaction which can be diluted to extreme lengths as it is the substance not the dosage that matters. This week we feature:-
Canine - Parvovirus in Pups Parvovirus is rivalled only by distemper as a cause of disease and death in dogs. Initially all dogs were suseptable but now mainly young dogs and pups that have lost the protection of maternal antibodies and have still not been immunised are the ones most likely to succumb. Parvo virus survives in faeces or contaminated ground for many months, while indirect contact from bowls and brushes also cause many cases. The virus attaches the intestinal lining eventually reaching a point where absorption of food and fluid can no longer occur and enteritis and diarrhoea are the result. Vomitting, dehydration and depression are clinical signs of this virus. In new born pups inflammation of the heart can occur. From a herbal point of view there a few things that you can do to support the puppy's immunity. You can give the puppy Maritime Pine Bark Extract, which is an immunity builder and can be found at the following link: http://www.herbal-dogkeeping.com/maritime_pine_bark_extract_pycnogenol.html Use Slippery Elm powder and Chamomile tea to get the intestinal tract back to normal, 1 dessert spoon of the slippery elm powder with enough Chamomile tea to make a paste: http://www.herbal-horsekeeping.com/horse_slippery_elm_bark_powder.html And the conditioning mix: http://www.herbal-dogkeeping.com/dog_conditioning_mix.html Also some yogurt into the diet with the A B and C cultures, This can be mixed with the Slippery Elm and chamomile mix and give by spoon. You also need to insure the puppy has a good natural diet and the best diet for a dog is a Raw Meat and Bones Diet. I have a couple of articles about natural diets for dogs that you may like to read: http://www.herbal-dogkeeping.com/articles_digestive_system_ofadog.html http://www.herbal-dogkeeping.com/articles_give_your_dog_abone.html You also need to make sure that the puppy has a clean environment. Parvovirus tends to be about more in the warmer months and puppies under 6 months are susceptible to it. Finally try to keep the puppy away from areas that stray dogs may be wondering as they can infect other dogs. Equine - Pea size lumps? Question: I have a 6 year old thoroughbred gelding that developed bumps on one side of his chest last year. At one point there were about 15 bumps the size of a pea. They are hard, and have increased in number, spreading in area. They don't seem to bother him, but I want these mystery bumps to dissapear before they do cause a problem. Can you help? Thank you. Reply: The lumps you describe are simply your horses system collecting together toxins from his blood and storing them safely out of the way so they don’t poison his system. In an ideal world he would be able to vary his diet and perhaps fast so that his system will be able to deal with the toxic buildup more effectively. As it is they will either be reabsorbed or break out like boils to be expelled in this way. My approach is to provide a course of blood cleansing herbs which will stimulate the systems to more effectively either expel or process and eliminate the toxins. This is normally very effective and will take around a complete blood cycle or 12 weeks to do the job. You may order this herbal mix from the link: http://www.herbal-horsekeeping.com/horse_blood_cleanser.html Human - Rosacea While the cause of rosacea is unknown and there is no cure, today medical help is available that can control the signs and symptoms of this potentially life-disruptive disorder. Those most likely to develop rosacea are fair-skinned adults, especially women, between the ages of 30 and 50, although it may affect men or women of any age and even children. For some unknown reason, women get rosacea more often than men, and some cases of this disorder have been associated with menopause. Rosacea usually develops over a long period of time. It may first seem like a tendency to blush easily, a ruddy complexion, or an extreme sensitivity to cosmetics. An occasional embarrassment or a tense moment may also trigger flushing. Dos and Don'ts for Rosacea Patients The exact cause of rosacea is still unknown. The best prevention may be to avoid things that make the face red or flushed.
When I treat it I use herbs to reduce skin and circulatory sensitivity while at the same time strengthening the blood vessel walls. Fenugreek tea is a good lymphatic tonic and cleanser. the use of Wheatgrass Spray may also be helpful to turn early Rosacea around. http://www.herbal-treatments.com/herbs_scar_recovery.html The Skin Recovery Spray has significant healing properties beyond wound healing and I would certainly consider a program which alternated this spray say in the morning with my Skin Magic Cream in the evening. http://www.herbal-treatments.com/herbs_skin_cream_magic.html Home Remedies -Bronchitis
This is an inflammation and infection of the bronchial system which can arise from many different causes, such as sinus or even kidney problems. There are quite a number of home remedies worthwhile trying to attack this problem :- 1. Garlic - to soothe inflammation and remove infection, you can take up to 20 capsules a day without harm, though I do recommend fresh cloves as a stronger option. 2. Peppermint Oil - 2 drops of peppermint oil in a basin of 600ml boiling water, use this for a steaming inhalation and to clear your head , bronchials and make breathing less laboured. 3. Eucalyptus rubbed on your chest or better still a small block of camphor hung around your neck in a red flannel bag will act to remove rubbish in your lungs and act as a preventative treatment. 4. Warm castor oil used as a poultice , smeared on your chest , cover with old sheeting or your oldest pyjamas. This will penetrate down to unhappy lungs and also draw out any rubbish . Put a warm towel or blanket over this to keep warm. I gave a jar of his sarcoid ointment to a friend whose horse had a dime size sarcoid at the base of his ear. They used it periodically over 6 months. It turned white and appeared to grow to the size of a small cherry tomato. Yesterday it fell off and is currently hanging by the root. They are very thrilled as they had been resisting surgery. Because of this success, they are much more willing to try your arthritis treatment on their daughter."
