Robert McDowell's Herbal Treatments 12 February 2005 Herbal Help for Humans and their CompanionsWorth Reading, the following is an excerpt from:"The Secret of Shambhala" by James Redfield "We humans are either in an alkaline, high energy state or we are in an acid state, which signals the microbes living within us, or that come by, that we are ready to decompose. Disease is literally a rotting of some part of our bodies because the microbes around us have been given the signal that we are already dead." The food we eat determines almost entirely which of these two conditions we are in. Generally, foods that leave acid wastes in our body are heavy, overcooked, overprocessed, and sweet, such as meats, flours, pastries, alcohol, coffee, and the sweeter fruits. Alkaline foods are greener, fresher, and more alive, such as fresh vegetables and their juices, leafy greens, sprouts, and fruits like avocado, tomato, grapefruit, and lemons. It could not be more simple. We are spiritual beings in an energetic, spiritual world. Those of you in the West might have grown up thinking that cooked meat and processed foods are good for us. But we know now that they create an environment of slow disincorporation that takes its toll on us over time. "All the debilitating illnesses that plague mankind arteriosclerosis, stroke, arthritis, AIDS, and especially cancers exist because we pollute our bodies, which signals the microbes inside that we are ready to break down, deenergize, die. We always wondered why some people exposed to the same microbes don't get a particular disease. The difference is the inner-body environment. The good news is that even if we have too much acidity in our bodies and begin to decompose, the situation can be reversed if we improve our nutrition and move to an alkaline, higher energy state." Something to think about....... This week we feature:-
Canine - Heart Worm The simple answer is that there is no herbal treatment which will kill all worms and register a zero count in a blood test. Worms evolved along with dogs and the dog's immunity if properly supported will effectively control any infestation so that it does the animal no harm. The herb Wormwood (and many others) was used for hundreds of years to assist in managing worm loads in people and animals alike. These herbal wormers are safe for the host, have no side effects and discourage worms by making the dogs system healthier and discouraging worm reproduction. Chemical wormers (like arsenic for heartworm) works only because it kills worms quicker than it kills dogs. It leaves dead worms in the blood which can create problems, leaves the immunity damaged and the animal more liable for new infestation. Zero tests resulting from chemical wormers is a stupid target, but good business for the companies who make the wormers because they know that the clients will be back with bigger and better worm loads for which they will be able to provide more drugs. http://www.herbal-dogkeeping.com/dog_heartworm_treatment.html http://www.herbal-dogkeeping.com/dog_worming_preventative.html http://www.herbal-dogkeeping.com/dog_worming_program.html Equine - Bossy Mare We were recently asked for assistance with a very bossy mare who would buck off her rider when required to practice any riding skill. Historically she had been allowed to get away with this behaviour. This is a learned pattern and will take time and perseverance to subdue. She is controlling the situation (aren't horses clever???) My recommendations are to get the mare assessed by a reputable & professional rider/trainer. They will ride the mare & if she tries to buck them off ( hopefully) they will have the skills to ride through the buck. A few sessions of this retraining should settle her down. She needs to learn that she can't get away with this behaviour. At home include some chamomile tea in the horse's feed: http://herbal-treatments.com/horse_chamomile_flowers.html Use 3 - 4 dessertspoons of the dried flowers to 1 litre of boiling water. Allow to cool and use half for the morning feed and half for the evening feed. This can be given as an ongoing supplement and is also very good for the coat. It is also a good idea to have a qualified equine massage therapist or chiropractor check out the horse structurally to make sure all is in balance and also have the saddle fit checked. They will be able to see irregularities in movement & muscle while on a lunge rope . It is also worthwhile having a qualified Equine Dentist check out the teeth development . If it does turn out to be her temperament then the nervous rehabilitation mix may help calm her disposition: http://www.herbal-horsekeeping.com/horse_nervous_rehabilitation.html Human - Prolapse A prolapse is really a situation where the connective tissue supporting our organs lose their tension or the walls of certain organs lose their tension and the structure collapses down with the weight of gravity. There are very specific herbs and exercises which help restore the elasticity of the connective tissue and I can provide a course of these herbs. These processes and herbs are described in an article to be found on: http://www.herbal-treatment.net/herbs_bladder_prolapse.html http://www.herbal-treatment.net/herbs_vaginal_prolapse.html http://www.herbal-treatments.com.au/newsletter_17112002_uterine_prolapse_incontinence.html It is also useful to take the weight of the bladder at night to allow the stretched ligaments to recover and this is easily done by elevating the foot of your bet with a brick or some such device to lift it up. This causes the organs to slide back to their normal position at night and facilitate the recovery especially when on the herbal treatment. For a prolapse you would be on the program for 6 to 12 months but should notice improvements within the first 6 weeks. Home Remedies -The Delectable Raspberry (Rubus Idaeus) "The Womens Herb" There are many health giving properties in the Raspberry not just in the fruit but also in the roots, leaves and bark. The raspberry is part of the Rocasea family so is a relative of the rose, famous for vitamin C in the rose hip. Raspberry leaves (and fruit) are rich in citric acid, malic acid, tartaric acid, citrate, malate and tartarate of iron, potassium and calcium, calcium and potassium chloride, sulphate and phosphate, pectin, fragrine (an alkaloid that tones the tissues), a volatile oil, vitamins A, B, C, E, and fructose. Pregnancy: Drinking during the first and third trimesters pregnancy strengthens and tones tissues, helping contractions and checks hemorrhage during labour. A safe drink (unlike black tea or coffee which contain caffeine) raspberry tea also enriches milk and helps prevent miscarriage. Leucorrhea: In case of leucorrhea (mucous discharge from genitals), raspberry leaf douche is made by simmering 1 tablespoon of leaves in one pint of water for 10 minutes, covered, cooled, strained and used at room temperature. Menstruation: Raspberry tea has helped with painful menstruation and flow, and lessens an over-abundant period. At menopause the adrenals are geared to take over as the ovaries gradually cease functioning; many menopausal symptoms are caused by exhausted adrenals. The herb best suited to help is raspberry leaf. Men in mid-life crisis with exhausted adrenals are well-advised to drink the tea also. Fertility: Red raspberry tea increases the fertility in both females and males especially for a tired uterus or after multiple miscarriages. Method: Pour one cup boiling water over a teaspoon of dried leaves and let it steep at least 15 minutes. Harvest wild or tame raspberry leaves in spring or mid-summer for maximum potency. Use them freshly picked, but dry them for storage away from the light. They dry nicely spread thinly on a cotton sheet. Rinse your teapot with hot water, add a handful of organic, sun-dried raspberry leaves, cover with boiling water and let steep ten minutes. Raspberry leaf tea is precious hot or cold; if you intend to keep it overnight it is best stored in the fridge. Raspberry leaf tea popsicles are a delight not to be missed in this lifetime. Simply pour cooled tea into an ice-cube tray and remove when frozen. Please let us know your experiences with raspberry leaf tea.
