Robert McDowell's Herbal Treatments 09 January 2005 Herbal Help for Humans and their CompanionsHolidays, Rest , A break away, Change of scene, Pottering around at home, Time Out - We all need them!Have you ever wondered about holidays. Some folk find them more stressful than staying at home, some seem to be always away, others go to the same place year after year at exactly the same time each year. Certainly an overseas trip can be very tiring and confronting if going to a third world or a non english speaking country but the benefits are enormous as well. You can't help but learn about yourself along with patience, tolerance, compassion and understanding. If undertaking this adventure prepare well for it. Do some research about your destination, the Lonely Planet Guides are an excellent resource. I have found it helpful, particularly if you are travelling with children, to stay a few days in each place, rather than rush around staying only 1 or 2 nights in each place. If not you start very quickly to feel disoriented and unable to appreciate the people and place. I was reminded the other day that time out, a half hour break to sit quietly or potter around for pleasure, and I don't mean rushing around cleaning and achieving tasks off your list of jobs is like a mini holiday. Both ends of the scale are important to our wellbeing. They both require a consciousness and a certain planning. Enjoy all aspects of your holiday and the time out you take during the day. Anticipate joyfully. This week we feature:-
Feline - A Cat Chasing its Own Tail Rescue Remedy does contain Rock Rose and this is an ideal treatment given 3 or 4 times daily whether she seems to need it or not for a couple of weeks. http://www.herbal-dogkeeping.com/dog_rescue_remedy.html If this is not enough I could send a nervous system strengthening tonic which I use for nervous and fearful dogs and which will rebuild her nervous system and should help break the habit if the Rescue Remedy is not enough. This mix is described on my website at: http://www.herbal-treatments.com/dog_nervous_rehabilitation.html Equine - Total Debilitation In this dire situation I would immediately prescribe two of our main treatments. These are the Metabolic Conditioning Mix which is described on the website at: http://www.herbal-horsekeeping.com/horse_conditioning_blend.html This is the mix urgently needed to bring their metabolism back from total collapse.. You will see results within two weeks and as soon as we can get him absorbing and using his feed we can start on the path back. The treatment comes in a Bucket and is sufficient for about 6 weeks at the full treatment dose of 1 cupful morning and evening. In addition I would provide a course of the Nervous System Rehabilitation Program also to be found on the website at: http://www.herbal-horsekeeping.com/horse_nervous_rehabilitation.html If there is any weaving and the debility in general will involve a severe depletion of the nervous system also and this needs to be addressed before we can expect everything to turn around for the better. We do realize this is an expensive option but it is much cheaper than one night in a vet hospital or a whole bunch of inconclusive tests. At least this way you will be treating him at home and you will see the improvements yourself. Human - New Mum and Baby - Those Stressful Early Weeks Best advice for both mother and baby is Chamomile tea regularly. For the small one this may be mixed into expressed breast milk or just given into the side of a cheek with an eye dropper. The stress of inter-reaction in learning how to care for a new human being and the emotional tension transmitted between the members of a new family can be a real problem. Dealing with any underlying issues and feelings is essential. New mothers need Rescue Remedy, emotional support, help with the baby at night, and to let go of any guilt that they may be feeling about not coping well, and the time and energy to express loads of tender and consistent feelings toward the baby. None of this comes in a bottle. Start with the Chamomile and the Rescue Remedy and see where other help can be offered. For more information on herbs, pregnancy and birthing see the site below: http://carefreemedicine.com/herbs_birthing_natal_depression.html Home Remedies - Barbers Rash Techniques to reduce the redness and dryness of barbers rash that can frustrate some men following shaving. The usual places that the irritation may occur is around the top lip and the neck area.
