Robert McDowell's Herbal Treatments 19 January 2005 Herbal Help for Humans and their CompanionsThe Natural Laws of HealthPure Air, Sunlight, Temperance, Exercise, Proper Diet, Use of Water, Trust in Divine Power. Take a moment to consider the following to enhance your total wellbeing. Nutrition: The vegetarian diet is the best way to lose weight and keep it off, improves health, decreases disease, promotes longer life, and is more economical. Use nutrient-dense food and pure water as your nourishment and medicine. Avoid polluting your body. Exercise your body. Stay strong and supple. Its very important for physical and mental health. Exercise lowers the heart rate and blood pressure, controls appetite, burns up unwanted fat, increases circulation and oxygen intake, improves muscle tone. Sunshine: One of the most healing agents of Nature. Sunshine forms vitamin D in the skin, destroys bacteria and viruses, increases available white blood cells, lowers blood pressure, and lowers cholesterol and fat levels in the blood. Air: We are greatly benefited by negative ions which occur in fresh outdoor air. Breathe deeply the fresh air to increase quantities of oxygen. Water: Your blood is about 90% water and it carries nutrients to and from cells. The kidneys must have adequate water to filter out waste products. Many times common constipation, headaches, and backaches can be relieved simply by drinking sufficient water, which is 6 to 8 eight-ounce glasses per day. Rest: Rest, relax, get enough sleep every night. Every cell in the body expends energy. Rest helps us re-supply these cells with the energy they need. Rest can be quiet physical relaxation or vigorous exercise after mental work. Temperance: Temperance (self-control) is having a totally healthy and balanced life- style in every way. It includes the proper ratio of work and relaxation, time for God, right eating and right thinking. Resolve emotional conflicts and pain. Cleanse and heal the soul; work to eliminate stress. Practice daily inner reflection, prayer or meditation. Use music for spiritual rejuvenation. Strive for higher consciousness and intellectual fulfillment. Develop your own unique gifts; use them to make the world a better place for future generations. Seek a purposeful life. Foster creativity. Develop nurturing, satisfying relationships. Give and receive joy. Spend time in nature for new insights, appreciation, and healing. Contribute to the health of our living, breathing planet. This week we feature:-
Canine - Mastitis Rescue Remedy does contain Rock Rose and this is an ideal treatment given 3 or 4 times daily The best herbal treatment for mastitis is to apply castor oil to the teats for a time after she has fed her litter and then lock the puppies away from her for an hour or so after which you wash her teats and let them all feed again. This is repeated 3 or 4 times and the mastitis will be cleared. If there is an actual infection which has spread from the teats and affected her system more generally we use a blood cleanser. It is just better for them if they don't also ingest too much castor oil. Equine - Anaemia Horses can sometimes be faced with an effciency problem in managing blood iron and blood oxygen , this presents as a low grade aneamia. Anaemia will show in your horse as an off-colour feel about their energy levels and the light colour about the mucous membranes. I don't recommend a blood test as this will cost and will not be very conclusive. Its is better to spend your effort in turning the general problem around. For anaemia I would make up a mixture using my normal bleeder treatment as the base this can be found on the website at http://www.herbal-horsekeeping.com/horse_bleeder_treatment.html This mix include circulatory, bone marrow, heart and blood tonics , to this I would add liver tonics to ensure that the liver is in tip top condition. Exposure to a course of such a mix for a full blood cycle (12 weeks) should re-establish a normal healthy pattern and you would notice signs of improve. Human - Fungal Skin Infections Fungal skin infections include tinea, athletes foot, jock itch and ringworm. These infections result from different fungi that can appear in warmer weather or when the skin folds are warm and moist. Other symptoms can be a scaling skin with an itchy raw sometimes painful rash, the skin may crack and so cause secondary bacterial infections. http://www.herbal-treatment.net/herbs_ringworm.html Treatment is simple for all the above conditions with the herb Thuja. This herb is a major fungicide and is also useful for viral /fungal combinations such as planter warts where treatment needs to continue for 6-8 weeks. Home Remedies - Artificial Sweeteners Aspartame is the technical name for the brand names, NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, and Equal-Measure. Some of the side effects of chronic use of artificial sweeteners can include the following ; headaches/migraines, dizziness, seizures, nausea, numbness, muscle spasms, weight gain, rashes, depression, fatigue, irritability, tachycardia, insomnia, vision problems, hearing loss, heart palpitations, breathing difficulties, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, loss of taste, tinnitus, vertigo, memory loss, and joint pain. According to researchers and physicians studying the adverse effects of aspartame, the following chronic illnesses can be triggered or worsened by the ingesting of aspartame: Brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, chronic fatigue syndrome, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's, mental retardation, lymphoma, birth defects, fibromyalgia, and diabetes. ASPARTAME CAN BE FOUND IN:
We need to be particularly wary if giving our children artificial sweeteners in the form of sweet fizzy drinks as the blood brain barrier which normally provides protection is not fully developed during childhood, but also the BBB does not give full protection to anyone from excess glutamate and aspartate even when intact . If for some reason such as being a diabetic or suffering from candidiasis and you need to use a non sugar or non honey sweetener I suggest you try Stevia (Stevia rebaudiana). Stevia is said to be 200 times sweeter than sugar; a little goes a very long way. It can be used as a sweetener for diabetic animals or humans because it does not effect blood sugar. It can also be used to sweeten herbal teas and even in cooking, it is available in powder or pill form from health food shops Reader Feed Back Name: Maggie Gothard Topic: Your holiday tips in the Christmas Newsletter Comments: I found this lovely to read and be reminded that we all need to reward ourselves with rest and breaks throughout every day, never mind just those days we designate as 'holiday' ones!
