This week we feature:- If you missed out on the Christmas Newsletter the following topics were covered:- Canine - Nasty tasting drops, Equine Agistment at Kellosheil Park, Human Hives and Elder Flower Home Remedy http://www.herbal-treatments.com/newsletter.html

Canine - Gum Disease

Gum disease in dogs is usually due to poor dental hygiene the same as in humans.

The number 1 reason for gum disease is reliance on tinned dog food & biscuits.

We clean our teeth with a toothbrush & the dog cleans its teeth with bones.

Gum disease begins with the formation of plaque, a sticky film of bacteria that forms in the mouth at the gum line. Plaque hardens into tartar which harms the gums causing them to become red and swollen, known as gingivitis. If left untreated, gingivitis will lead to gum and periodontal disease. This can lead to infections of the bone that hold the teeth in place, resulting in loss of bone, which can cause the teeth to fall out.

The infection can also travel into the blood & cause further problems. Prevention is much better then cure for gum disease but in your case the damage sounds as if it's progressed too far.

The gums and teeth may need to be cleaned by your Vet & any diseased teeth must be removed.

I also recommend that you place your dog on a diet of raw meat & bones i.e. beef/mutton bones with meat on them or raw chicken necks and wings, mince, definitely no processed food and snacks. You can also add some freshly cooked vegetables and rice as well. Add 2 dessertspoons of Crushed White Millet & Linseed to food 1 x daily.

If your dog is not already on this type of diet, then I suggest that you introduce it slowly.

Have a read of the following articles regarding dogs diets and why it is important to keep it natural and simple:

I recommend that you start dosing with Colloidal silver 10mls 2x a day to treat the infection and also Maritime Pine Bark.

Equine - Stallion Blend

The Stallion Blend described on my website at:
http://www.herbal-horsekeeping.com/horse_stallion_breeding.html
is very effective and I have a lot of stud owners here in Australia using it routinely with their stock.

My formulation recognises that there are many factors involved in low semen counts. The physical and immune system vitality and the nervous system vitality are equally as important as the hormonal vitality. My program addresses all these areas.

Depending on where you live and the import controls I can either make it up as a dried herb mix or an alcohol extract.

Human - Haemorroids

The place to start with haemorrhoids is by strengthening the blood vessel walls which is the underlying problem. This is best done by providing you with a mixture which works on the health of all blood vessel walls and the circulation in general. At the same time I will include herbs which will assist in softening the stools and retaining the fluid in the bowel.

Please see the link below:
http://www.herbal-treatments.com/herbs_haemorrhoids.html

You can assist by increasing your intake of water to try to allow a softer less abrasive environment so that the haemorrhoids may heal and the stools may return to normal.

If you wish I can also add herbs to a Paw paw based ointment which can be applied using your finger internally which will directly assist at the site of the haemorrhoids themselves.

Home Remedies - Cabbage leaves for engorgement

Cabbage
Severe engorgement about the third or fourth day after the baby is born can usually be prevented by getting the baby latched on well and drinking well from the very beginning.

If you do become engorged, please understand that engorgement diminishes within 1 or 2 days even without any treatment. Continue to breastfeed the baby, making sure he gets on well and nurses well. However, if you should get engorged to the point of severe discomfort or if the baby is not able to take the breast, cabbage leaves seem to help decrease the engorgement more rapidly than ice packs or other treatments.

If you are unable to get the baby latched on, start cabbage leaves, start expressing your milk and give the expressed milk to the baby by spoon, cup, finger feeding or eyedropper and get help quickly.

1. Use green cabbage.

2. Crush the cabbage leaves with a rolling pin if the leaves do not accommodate to the shape of your breast.

3. Wrap the cabbage leaves around the breast and leave on for about 20 minutes. Twice daily is enough. It is usual to use the cabbage leaf treatment two or three times or less. Some will say to use the cabbage leaves after each feeding and leave them on until they wilt. Some are concerned that such frequent use will decrease the milk supply.

4. Stop using as soon as engorgement is beginning to diminish and you are becoming more comfortable.

5. Ice packs also can be helpful.

6. If you are one of the women who gets a large lump in the armpit about 3 or 4 days after the baby's birth, you can use cabbage leaves in that area as well.
