Feline - Cat Spraying

Rescue Remedy will assist in calming down the cat but cannot remove the cause of the spraying. You can start with dosing with the Rescue Remedy 2-3 x daily and also address the underlying issues of spraying and deter that way.

Spraying is his way of marking territory; new smells or other changes in the environment can trigger behaviour. The smell will get terrible but yes you do have some options.

If not already desexed have a male cat done before the habit gets obsessive.

Since the "purpose" of spraying is to mark an area with urine odor, it is not surprising that as the odor is cleaned up; the cat wants to refresh the area with more urine. Cleaning alone does little to reduce spraying. Cats that mark in one or two particular areas may cease if the function of the area is changed. If he has specific areas for spraying, place small saucers of food in these locations. Or place bedding and scratching poles in these areas.

It is unlikely that cats will spray in their feeding, sleeping or scratching areas.

Cats do not like the smell of orange or lemon oil, so dab small amounts onto cotton balls and place in these spraying areas or wipe it on the surfaces that are sprayed. Remember it is an oil and will stain materials.

Some cats are less likely to spray if a little of their cheek gland scent can be placed in the sprayed area. This may change the area to one of cheek gland marking and since the odor remains the desire to spray may be greatly reduced.

Clean the areas with alcohol (not bleach) first to remove the urine smell.

Then you can perhaps get the same smell marking effect by rubbing a cotton ball or gauze square on your cat's cheek or chin glands and then rubbing the scent onto the previously sprayed areas.

You can get a reusable baby swim nappy and modify it to fit his tail. The spray will collect in the nappy.

Another option is to build yourself an outdoor cat area and confine him outdoors until everything has settled down. When you reintroduce him to the house, have your own water gun handy and if he goes to spray you fire first.

You will need to be consistent with all of these disciplines, it will take time and effort; the trick is to be consistent.

Please see our new cat site below - it desperately needs photos and stories about your beloved feline friends.

Canine - Steroid Side Effects

The pet on glucocorticoids is likely to experience the following:
  • Increased hunger
  • Increased thirst (and possibly urinary incontinence if there is inadequate access to an area for appropriate urination).
  • Panting (dogs)
  • General loss of energy
  • Recrudescence of latent infection

Further, pre-diabetic animals may be "tipped over" into a diabetic state with steroid use. Often in these cases, the diabetes resolves once the steroid wears off. Sensitive individuals may experience upset stomach which can be serious.

There are many conditions which require long term suppression of the immune system. Glucocorticoid doses generally include an "anti-inflammatory" dose which is lower and an "immune suppressive" dose which is higher, though with long enough term use, lower doses will become immune suppressive. When steroid use stretches out for more than four months, a new set of side effects becomes of concern.

Our Cortisone side effects support mix includes the herbs Liquorice, Horsetail, Rue , Nettle, Oats, St Johns Wort, Celery, and Juniper, plus the Bach Flower Wild Rose and Mimulus. This mix supports the rebalancing of the adrenal glands and lymphatic systems, stamina and overall wellbeing during a stressful time.

    Equine - Lymphangitis

All lymphangitis symptoms point to the horse fighting some sort of infection in the body, while the swelling legs indicate that the lymphatic system is not working as well as it should.

    1. This type of swelling is due to an upset in the lymphatic system usually brought on by an infection of some type I will recommend the Blood Cleanser this will also boost immunity, which is found at:
    http://www.herbal-treatments.com/horse_blood_cleanser.html

    2. Along with my Hoof Oil mix as well. This is a powerful herbal blend that will promote circulation in the lower limb, it is found at:
    http://www.herbal-treatments.com/horse_hoof_oil.html

    3. I recommend that you also place some Fenugreek tea into the feed. This tea will help to support the Lymphatic system. Simply mix 2 dessert spoons to 1 Litre boiling water, cool and mix 1/2 AM feed rest PM feed every day.

    4. Twice daily give a dose of cold Rosehips Tea made by soaking a 1/4 cup of Rosehips Granules in a pint of boiling water and leaving it until cold. When cold, the tea grounds and all, is used to dampen down dried feed in the morning and evening.

Any antibiotic use would be depleting your horses energy vitality.

    Human - Polycystic Ovary

A polycystic ovary is not purely physical in origin and neither is it a simplistic result of hormonal imbalance. There are energetic, hormonal and physical situations all bound together and this is why my holistic approach offers a far better chance of bringing things back into balance as compared with an approach which seeks to manipulate hormonal levels without asking why they went out of balance in the first place.

I have many many patients over the past 22 years in practice who have benefited greatly by using this simple approach. Best to continue with the herbs for 6 months or so and afterward maybe a cup of red clover tea once or twice a week is all that is required after such a course.

A pregnancy of course often also helps to settle the balance back to normal . Details of the mix are on the link below, this will support the resolution of the ovarian cysts and cysts in general.

    Home Remedies - Aloe Vera

    Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is a highly respected and loved plant. It is easily grown in a pot or poor soils, likes full sun and is drought hardy but not frost tolerant at all.

Everyone should have a pot of it in the bathroom or on the kitchen window sill as it has so many uses. If used fresh you can be assured it is sterile.

  • Skin repair just cut a small part of the leaf , slice lengthways and apply the gel directly onto the skin.
  • If applied to acne it reduces scarring. It only feels sticky for a short time.
  • On burns apply a new leaf as soon as it feels warm from the heat of the burn.
  • Insect bites are soothed and Columbians even use it as an insect repellant.
  • Constipation-1 tablespoon per day of gel , if you don't like the taste make into a jelly with 1 packet of jelly crystals, dissolve in 250 mls of boiling water, when cool add 250 of washed and blended gel.

    Reader Feed Back

    Cabbage leaves

Ooooh yes...I can vouch for cabbage leaves for engorged breasts. The lactation consultant at the hospital had never heard of it, the staff couldn't help except to bind me up like a mummy but I had done alot of reading from many sources and asked my own mummy to bring some in for me to try. Such relief I can't tell you, a good tip is to keep a whole cabbage in the fridge so you can peel off the cold leaves and stuff them into your bra.
