Robert McDowell's Herbal Treatments 18 March 2007 Herbal Help for Humans and their CompanionsHerbs for LongevityIt was the life history of the renowned Chinese herbalist Professor Li Chung Yun, who lived to the age of 256 years that made the western world aware of the true value of herbs for longevity. Li advised that his longevity was the practice of wisdom to keep a quiet heart with a calm and serene attitude toward life (Don't Worry-Be Happy), follow a vegetarian diet and use natural elixirs to generate radiant health. His age was officially recorded by the Chinese Government. Herbs he recommended, most highly, were Gotu Kola and Ginseng. Besides recommending life-extending herbs, his lectures gave clear-cut guidelines, for those who wished to enjoy a long life. He stressed; one should never be in a hurry ... take it easy ... take your time. He taught his students to sit as calmly as a tortoise, walk as sprightly as a bird, and sleep as soundly as a dog. He advocated avoiding extremes of emotion of all kinds, especially as a person grows older, as nothing drains energy from the body as rapidly, or disrupts the functional harmony of vital organs, as completely, as stress or strong outbursts of emotion. Daily physical exercise and deep breathing was important, as also was a simple, primarily vegetarian, diet; and on hot, summer nights, over-eating should be avoided (as it causes stagnation of the blood and lowered energy). On cold, winter mornings, extra quantities of nourishing foods should be eaten, to provide the extra essence and energy the body required, for keeping warm. It is said that in the Orient, where Gotu kola is primarily regarded as a herb for longevity, there are many recorded examples of unusual longevity, attained by those who used the plant, regularly. Elephants seek out Gotu kola as a favourite food. This week we feature:-
Feline - Removing Feline Urine odours and stains Take a 2 litre soda, pour out 1/2 cup and replace it with 1/2 cup white vinegar; soak the area with this solution, then wet a towel large enough to cover the area with solution and cover area. Walk on towel to pick up surface odour/stain. Replace with another towel. The first day you may need to replace the towel 2 or 3 times. When the towel comes up clean with no stain or odour the treatment is done. It is a pain but seems to work - you might want to try a small area first. A number of pet owners use and like Nature's Miracle, Simple Solution. Whichever product you use, make sure it is enzyme based. These treatments do not harm carpets, and are great to keep around to quickly care for accidents. Canine - Lung Capacity Mix Reasons to possibly consider our lung capacity mix:- This mix is used in a variety of situations. It is often used in conjunction with our heart repair mix for cases of enlarged hearts. We consider it for a dog whose lungs have been damaged or impaired by smoke inhalation also for a dog who is suffering from a cancer that affects the efficiency of its lungs. However it is not a specific for lung cancer . This extract of herbs clears and strengthens the lungs, opens the airways and boosts the adrenal glands to maximise the efficiency in the lungs and bronchials. It also works to boost general circulation. This particular combination also aids in healing scarring from lung damage and helps to protect any such damage resulting in bleeding under stress. More vitality and energy should be seen within the first couple of weeks and there is no danger in continuing with this tonic as part of a daily diet for a long period . The mix includes Hawthorn, Comfrey, Elecampane, Golden Rod, Liquorice, Mullein, Horsetail, Rue and Nettle along with the Bach Flowers Mimulus and Gorse. I am VERY happy to advise that Monte's eye is the best it has looked for 3 years. I will relate what we did, as this could be helpful for other horses with this VERY painful problem. I had been washing his eye with Silver Solution with Eyebright Tincture, also some "Eye wash" drops, and while it helped it never fixed it. I decided to try making an ointment using the "eye wash", the eyebright tincture, (probably very much the same as yours, it smelled very similar !), Rescue Remedy (a friend makes this one) plus 3 drops of Neem Tree Extract mixed into a base of Brolene, (human eye ointment, I didn't know what else to use as a base) I put 5 drops each of the above into about 1/2 tube Brolene. A small amount was put on a cotton bud and placed under the top eyelid. He has been getting 4 x 360mg of NEEM capsules, and about 5oo mg of Tumeric every day. I have a friend in India who advised this and suggests to continue Neem and Tumeric at a reduced dose for up to a year. It has taken 4 months, but the ulceration of his eyelid has healed, stopped weeping, and the cloudiness is starting to clear. I also sewed a patch of black onto a fly mask over the effected eye to keep the light out. What helped most I can't say, but I am SO pleased to see him comfortable. I sincerely hope this will help you to help others. Beverley N Human - Immunity Boosting to Fight Viral Attacks We have a responsibility to care for our bodies and enhance our body's natural immune system and make it as strong as it possibly can be for the work and life we have chosen to live. You should be aware that modern day living with its increasingly sedentary lifestyle and excessive consumption of junk foods, depresses the immune system. To add to this, antibiotics and other pharmaceutical weapons invade the body and battle with the disease as well as the immune system. Increasing work pressures, poor stress management, pollutants in the air, pesticides in the food all add up to ruining our disease fighting capacity. But remember, you are as strong as your immune system allows you to be. What you choose to put into your mouth accounts for your first line of defence against disease. Irrespective of exercising everyday, having a positive state of mind, keeping your sexuality under control, you can upset everything by eating foods which subtract from your health. Refined flour, white sugar, processed and canned foods, deep fried foods, red meat can damage your health and depress immunity. Eating foods in their most natural forms like whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds is the easiest way to enhance immunity. Some vitamins and herbs have special immune enhancing powers. Your immune system is a very complex defence system that is your first line of protection in all matters related to your health. In simplest terms, it fights off potentially harmful infectious organisms in a constant effort to maintain a healthy state. Factors that affect your immune system: Try to be aware of your personal circumstances, your stress levels and how you manage them. Do you know how you relax best? I know someone who finds it very difficult to relax except when they sit by a river or have a bath. If you are under a lot of pressure you could look at taking our Burn Out Mix and or our powerful and popular antioxidant Maritime Pine Bark which we recommend for all patients who have some compromising health problems. http://www.herbal-treatments.com/herbs_burn_out.html http://www.herbal-treatments.com/maritime_pine_bark_extract_pycnogenol.html http://www.herbal-treatments.com.au/human_treatments.html#nervous_system_treatment The reported symptoms of most influenza strains in humans range from typical influenza-like symptoms (e.g., fever, cough, sore throat, and muscle aches) to eye infections (conjunctivitis), pneumonia, acute respiratory distress, viral pneumonia, and other severe and life-threatening complications. Gotu kola is occasionally called the arthritis herb in Australia
has been known for centuries, valued for treating leprosy and tuberculosis; relieving the pain of rheumatism and arthritis; to increase brain capacity; and for longevity, often being called, the elixir of life. A legendary saying, in reference to gotu kola was: '2 leaves a day, keeps old age away'. In Sinhalese culture, they valued the herb to strengthen and revitalize worn out bodies and brains; eating 2-3 leaves a day to bring about a gradual return to health and strength, provided that the body is exposed to the sun, for a time, each day.In Ancient China, the herb was a principal ingredient in an elixir called 'fo ti tieng', a mixture that was called the fountain of youth. Many herbalists have called Gotu Kola: the finest of all herb tonics. It appears, they say, to have no equal in the treatment of general debility and decline. Digestion is strengthened by the bitter properties with the process of overall metabolism, increased. Gotu kola has been called 'a pharmacy in one herb', offering impressive benefits. In India, Gotu kola is a traditional remedy for skin conditions, wounds and bruises. It is one of the most important, rejuvenating herbs in Ayurvedic medicine, particularly valued for: revitalising nerve and brain cells, promoting calmness and clarity, helping poor memory and lack of concentration, increasing meditation ability and to help balance the left and right hemispheres of the brain. Gotu Kola can be grown easily , leaves picked as required to eat fresh or make a tea. Reader Feed Back - An Extended Healthy Herbal Remission I want to share with you Phyllis and Honeys story about what to expect when setting out on an wholistic path with your pets and a terminal disease. Part of the conscious acknowledgment of this path , includes reducing extra suffering for your pet and yourself and deciding not to go over board spending literally thousands of dollars of extra money on all and every possible remedy. Thank you Phyllis Hello All, I just wanted to let you know that my beloved Honey passed away on Jan. 2nd. Shortly before Christmas she started to display the "signs" you told me to look out for, you were "right on target" not only with how long she would probably have but with what to look for at the end. - she had trouble eating, she wasn't as alert as she use to be, her breathing became more laboured and she developed a large growth on the side of her neck that opened up and was emitting a very foul odour. I realized that my worst fears were coming true and I did not want her to suffer anymore so with a very heavy heart I had her put to sleep. When I finally called them to put her down, they said that her making it as long as she did was "unheard of"!! So please let others know this! I cannot say how wonderful it was to give Honey your herbals (I administered them in her food twice a day with absolutely no problems!) - I realized that not only did I not "throw the money away" like my vet wanted, but I gave her many months of a very high-quality of life! When she was diagnosed with the mammary tumours, the vet said she would only have a "couple months" if I did not have the surgery - but even if I did, the tumours would probably grow back anyway! For almost 3 years after that I never had to take Honey back to the vet - she was happy and healthy. I just want to THANK YOU for helping me to give her almost 18 quality filled months. I know that during that time she was happy and content and I am ever grateful for that. I will always miss my baby but I'm glad for the time we had together and that I was able to find your fantastic herbal company and friendship. As always, thank you so much for all your help! Phyllis We value your feedback so much that we are making it easier for you to send us a sentence or two. Please fill in the form below and click 'Submit' Wishing you and your companions the best of health and happiness. Yours Truly, Judith Burton for Robert McDowell |
