My mother's Irish Setter has been diagnosed with Cushing's Disease. I work for a vet and recently discovered that another patient at our clinic was diagnosed with Cushing's and put their dog on a raw diet. The dog's blood tests are now in the normal range. They have not done any drug therapy. Do you feel that the raw diet could have helped this dog's recovery ? As I am sure you know a lot of vets who do not approve of raw diet and warn of illness resulting from uncooked food. What is your opionion?
The whole question of raw food is really miss-information being put about by those interested in marketing prepared dog feed, which is all cooked.

For your Mums dog's Cushing problem the natural diet and fasting program I recommend in the article will certainly help take the load off of the metabolism. Many metabolic health problems in dogs are simply a result of metabolic overload and that is why you heard of the case where the diet fixed the other dog completely.
As you know Cushing's is a problem with the Adrenal Glands which are mounted on the kidneys and the problem can be caused by too much Cortisone treatment in which case you will need to stop with this drug in order to treat it.
Otherwise it is caused by either a growth on the adrenal glands or a metabolic imbalance generally which has thrown the whole system out of balance.
I recommend two separate treatments to manage the condition if it is a tumour or to support the recovery if the problem has been caused by steroid abuse or by another hormonal/metabolic imbalance.
1.
