: I have an 8 1/2 year old English Setter who has recently (within the last several months) started having problems with incontinence. My vet has prescribed Phenylpropanolanamine, and she is responding well to that. She is on 100mg/day, in order to keep the problem under control. However, I notice that she is still dripping a little, and I am wondering if I might either supplement, or even be able to replace the prescription medication she is on for a natural product(s). Generally, Tali has a good health record. She did have a broken pelvis sometime before I got her, which was at about four months of age. The pelvis did not heal properly, and one leg in the back is shorter than the other, as a result. I recall that a vet at the time commented that she should not be allowed to breed, because the size of her birth canal had been compromised. Not sure if that might have an impact, but I'm assuming there could have been an injury at one time that might have caused her bladder to weaken early.

It is entirely possible that the injury to Tali's pelvis caused some sort of pressure or damage which resulted in weakening the sphincters. Not all structural incontinence cases are caused by the Spay Operation, just that this is the most common form.

Tali should respond very well to my Canine Incontinence mix to be found on the website by clicking on;

A fuller description of the herbs and the rationale behind my treatments for incontinent are found in an article;

I would recommend that you ran the herbal program alongside the drugs she is presently on, and that after two or three weeks you then reduced the drugs first by 50%. After a few more weeks it is all going well, try stopping them altogether and see if the herbs are holding the problem at bay on their own.

My formulation may be ordered directly from the link above.

Yours truly,

Robert McDowell
